We have marvelled at this rose since it first caught our attention by cruising through its 5 years of field trials. It is a rose to gladden the heart, a living reminder that to work with one of nature's great beauties is both a pleasure and a privilege.
'Translucent' begins to describe the effect of sunlight playing on the subtle shadings at different stages of the opening bloom. They are a miracle of pearly amber, of transparent gold and gossamer blush. They reflex to reveal stamens in gold, maroon or chocolate. Also they are magnificently plentiful, wave upon wave of them arriving in carefree abandon. They are triumphant, standing up in great sprays to be admired. Whether in the garden or the vase, Susan Daniel is irresistible.
